Founded in 1973 on the initiative of Senator Vittorino Colombo, founder and Chairman of the Istituto Italo Cinese, with the aim of presenting the many facets of the People’s Republic of China (culture, history, literature, philosophy, art, economics, medicine, science), Mondo Cinese is the oldest scholarly journal in Italy dedicated to the study of contemporary China.
Today the journal offers the members of the Italy China Foundation, institutions, the business world and the scientific community a reference tool and an authoritative key to understanding China’s current context.
The journal has now reached issue no. 178. In 2025, the two issues published examined the theme of a China in transformation: the first (no. 176) focused on environment, technology and urbanisation, and the second (no. 177) on politics, economy and society. In 2026, the first part of issue no. 178 was published, focusing on the China of the future.
