Born in 1973 from an idea of the Senator Vittorino Colombo – founder and President of the Italo-Chinese Institute – with the aim of raising awareness of the multiple facets of the reality of the People's Republic of China (culture, history, literature, philosophy, art, economics, medicine, science), Mondo Cinese it is oldest scientific journal in Italy dedicated to contemporary China studies.
Today, the magazine offers the members of the Itala Cina Foundation, institutions, the economic world and the scientific community a reference tool and it is an authoritative analytical tool for understanding the current Chinese context.
The magazine has reached issue 178. In 2025, the two published issues analysed the theme of China in transformation: the first (no. 176) focusing on environment, technology and urbanisation; the second (no. 177) on politics, economy and society. In 2026, the first part of issue 178 was published, focusing on China of the future.
